JAMES BLAKE — The Wilhelm Scream (James Blake, 2011)

So this came out like 2 days ago which means in the blogging world, it came out in the 90s, so I know it’s late.

But I feel like this video does such a good job of visually summing up James Blake’s sound. Right?

KENNIGO —- Down the Doorway

Here is an exceptionally well done self-made video from ‘indie rock’ trio Kennigo. Especially love that font they used for their band name at the very beginning and the scene with the crashing waves being mirrored at the beginning and end.

The group’s created this video + song so far, hoping to get their next track recorded soon. Check it out!

SLEIGH BELLS —- “Rill Rill” (Treats, 2010)

Sleigh Bells debuted the video for their latest single, “Rill Rill” today on MTV and it’s pretty crazy. Derek has a head wound and gets shoved out of a moving car, blood randomly oozes out of a telephone, Alexis poses with a crow and a switchblade… And there’s what I consider the best light show to ever use the fluorescent lighting of a high school science lab.

Pretty exciting to see this song get a video and the single treatment — it was definitely one of my most played songs this summer.

Patrick Wolf posted the video for his latest single, the City, to his Youtube channel today. I’m still a little unsure how I feel about his new direction, feel like it might be a little too 80s adult contemporary, but the video looks like it was a ton of fun to shoot. I like how it sort of looks like one of the fashion “video shoots.” Glad to see he’s happy again at least!

Check out Ariel Pink performing the other night on Fallon! Great performance, great sequinned shirts, great post-performance awkwardness. The band played “Round and Round,” by the way.

PANDA BEAR —- Atiba Song (2011)

So apparently this is a new Panda Bear song called “Atiba Song.” It serves as the soundtrack to this skateboarding video… I can’t figure out if this is a Tomboy track or just something he gave for this video.

Regardless, the song is nice - some soaring vocals with lots of reverb, what I can help but describe as surfy guitar work, and some light rattly percussion. The song’s especially simple, especially compared to some of the other songs we’ve heard. The production sounds really nice though - I wonder if it was produced by Sonic Boom? I’m really liking it though.

Joanna Newsom played Have One on Me gem “On a Good Day” on Letterman last night.

Proof positive that she can sound just as eloquent and devastating in 2 minutes and change as she can in nine minutes plus.

Enjoy.

It’s as if she knows I’ve been obsessing over this song the past few days! Rob puts it perfectly, Joanna sounds more eloquent and devastating in this short song than many do in their longest albums.

If you ever get a chance to see her live, make sure you take it!

“On a good day, you can feel my love for you.”

Ariel Pink did a short live set for Pitchfork TV - here’s one of my favorite Ariel Pink songs, “Fright Night.”

Watch the rest of the set, including “Round and Round,” over at Pitchfork TV.

SCISSOR SISTERS — Invisible Light (Night Work, 2010) ~ NSFW

Earlier tonight I was listening to a little bit of Night Work and was wondering when Scissor Sisters would release a new video / what their next single would be. I was sort of hoping for “Whole New Way” just because that song is so much fun, but “Invisible Light” was an early favorite of mine, so I’m just as excited to relay the info. of their video release for it.

The video was directed by Nicolas Mendez.
