I don’t understand why she insists on singing with that strange accent when she performs live, and also why she insists on adding seemingly random vocal runs to almost every line of the song. Or why she insists on squeezing in a ‘now’ or ‘lately’ at the end of ‘This is all I think of…’

So far I think her best live performance of ‘Video Games’ was the appearance she did on Jools Holland.

Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Live at the Premises)

I’m guessing that this performance was recorded and released as some sort of ‘proof’ that she can in fact sing — which I do think she’s succeeded in proving. She sounds pretty much exactly like the recording (with a few exceptions), which I guess means nothing if you didn’t like the song to begin with.

Interesting that it was given to GQ and not say, Pitchfork, when much of the controversy surrounding her is that she’s an “industry product.” Though, does giving your first interview to Pitchfork make you simply a product of a different industry? Some of her answers don’t help her out with the “product” thing, either, but I still believe it doesn’t really matter as long as I like the songs she makes. LANA DEL REY — Blue Jeans (2011)

I’ve been listening to ‘Video Games’ practically on repeat this past week, so I’m super excited to get another Lana Del Rey song. ‘Blue Jeans’ has a sort of old-Hollywood sadness vibe, featuring similar sampling as ‘Video Games.’ Lana Del Rey intrigues me because I feel like mainstream success wouldn’t be impossible with her, but it doesn’t seem like her goal. I’m interested to see where she takes her career.
