Africa (Toto) Golden Ages (Africa EP, 2010)

It’s always a nice surprise to sign into Twitter and see that you have a few more followers than the time before. It’s an even nicer surprise when one of those new followers happens to be a self-declared “power psych pop” band called Golden Ages that has put out some pretty good music lately.

Golden Ages released their latest EP, “Africa,” about a month ago - so this is a little late - but the music is good. The EP starts out with a cover of Toto’s “Africa” but with a hazy, psyched-out (but still upbeat and poppy) take on it. The other two songs are good too. “Down” is a watery instrumental with some percussion that sounds like it was recorded in a cave topped off with some spacey synths. “It Doesn’t Mean Shit” is the final track, so tropical you can literally hear the rain in the background- it makes a pretty good summer jam.

I’d definitely check this EP out and if you like it, head over to their Myspace for a few other tracks.
