Welcome to Neon Waves.
So this is Neon Waves. I’m taking a break from other “blogging engagements” and throwing all my energy behind this new one now. Neon Waves is going to be like a diary for music - everything I’m listening to at the moment, new stuff I find and really like, bands I think my friends might like… I’m writing for myself but with other people in mind as well.
I thought about whether or not I wanted to focus on one genre or maybe have no focus at all… Ultimately I decided that I would loosely focus on psychedelic and electronic music most specifically and “indie” music more broadly. Because I have a pretty broad taste in music, I’m also bound to post about music that’s much more “mainstream.” Don’t be surprised if you see a post about Kanye West or Kelis. Like I said, if it’s something I’m getting into at the moment, it’s going to be posted here.
Another thing I should say from the get-go: I’m not a great writer. I know this. My vocabulary in terms of describing music is sort of limited and I might not always have the most profound of thoughts concerning new music I’m listening to. But I’m hoping that by writing about music regularly, I will learn as I go.
Posts on Neon Waves will be generally short, frequent and track-centric (as opposed to album-centric). I’m not really going to post reviews of albums. I think that’s done better and more frequently by people more qualified. So instead I’ll mostly be posting single tracks (maybe a few at a time, really) and giving a few thoughts on those and links for downloads.
Long term goals? I don’t really have any yet. It’d be cool if eventually some other people got interested in what I was doing and wanted to help or something. That’s all I can really think of right now.
So, that pretty much wraps up the very first (and very messy) post of Neon Waves. Hope whoever ends up reading this enjoys the music that I post as much as I do and that hopefully you find some new music that you wouldn’t have ever encountered otherwise.
Oh yeah! I’ve created a Twitter account for Neon Waves too, so be sure to follow that if you use Twitter.
