Is this the first interview she’s given post-blog controversy? Interesting that it was given to GQ and not say, Pitchfork, when much of the controversy surrounding her is that she’s an “industry product.” Though, does giving your first interview to Pitchfork make you simply a product of a different industry?
Some of her answers don’t help her out with the “product” thing, either, but I still believe it doesn’t really matter as long as I like the songs she makes. I’m not ashamed to say I like the product of an industry, I guess.

As far as her being a branding pet project, I don’t think it matters either—as long as you dig it. There’s always such a fuss made over female singer-songwriters (e.g., when Newsom’s vocals sounded different on her latest and everyone went crazy)

The interview was given to GQ because she already gave an interview to pitchfork. Furthermore they were condescending and slammed her.
